A highly recommended food people tell you to try in Korea is the ginseng chicken soup, samgyetang in Korean, and we heard that the best place to have it in Seoul is Tosokchon, a restaurant specialising in just the very dish. It is within easy walking distance from the Gyeongbokgung palace, so we decided to go there for lunch between the guard performances. The restaurant has an old eating house atmosphere, with many rooms where guests have to take off their shoes, sit on the floor, and eat on low tables. It was certainly a nice experience, although to be completely honest we weren’t big fans of ginseng chicken soup in general.
While in the area, you should continue walking along the western wall of the palace and take a glimpse of the Blue House, where the President of South Korea resides. I said a glimpse because it’s heavily guarded, of course, and you couldn’t get any further from the spot where we took the picture below.
