Hiroshima, the first city to be hit by the atomic bomb that destroyed everything in a 2 kilometer radius looks like any other Japanese city in this day and age. It has been completely rebuilt, but the Japanese preserved the Atomic Bomb Dome, the only building left standing near the bomb’s hypocenter, and renamed it the Hiroshima Peace Memorial. It is quite hard to be in the vicinity of the dome and not imagine the terror of the explosion and the 70,000 lives that were instantly extinguished. It is a reminder that peace is not something we should take for granted.
