I’ve been wanting to come here ever since I learnt from watching Master Chef Australia that the Australian cook, food author, restaurateur and food manufacturer (Australian food queen, in other words) has a farm shop in the Barossa Valley. In fact, this was my first thought upon hearing I would have to relocate to Adelaide for work. Naturally, it took us months before we finally went on this trip. I’m just that easily distracted.
The farm shop sells Maggie Beer’s food products (all are free to taste!) and picnic baskets for lunch, mostly featuring pates served with wood fired oven bread. While I’m sure they taste great to those who love pates, I don’t eat pates and opted for a game terrine instead, served with cabernet sauce and salad greens, which was delicious. We had vanilla ice cream for dessert (but of course!), but there are many others featuring fresh fruits from Maggie’s own orchard.
Don’t be in a hurry to leave after lunch. Walk around the small lake, watch the ducks, and explore the olive orchard.
