As a girl who spends most of her life in big metropolitan cities, it is no wonder that I find traditional markets charming. When some of my colleagues, V, and I drove to McLaren Vale a few weekends ago, we stopped to check out the Willunga Farmers Market, the first farmers market to be established in South Australia, and found more than 60 stalls selling diverse produce from regional farms, all fresh and seasonal. As you would expect in the country, people were friendly, greeted each other warmly, and generally enjoyed a merry time without a sense of hurry. We stopped to chat with a young entrepreneur showcasing a tree-cycle, his answer to sustainable alternative public transportation in Adelaide. It was wonderful. When I was making up my mind about moving to Adelaide, some people said it might be too quiet for my liking. What do you know, I feel pretty comfortable here.
