Growing up in a tropical country means the concept of summer was lost on us. There was no brevity of sunshine magic, we had plenty of it all year round. School holiday was just a holiday, not the perfect time of year for playing outdoors, swimming, and taking naps in the afternoon heat. Now I’m twenty-eight, I’ve lived through a few winters in other parts of the world, and I miss the ease with which summer draws us out to the open for fresh air and careless adventures.
It’s been raining on and off in Singapore for the past two weeks, but I’ve been making more of an effort not to stay holed up inside. Today I woke up to a light drizzle outside my window, but I put on a sleeveless top, a flowy maxi skirt, and took a leisurely walk in the park opposite where we live anyway. Here’s to the warmth of the sun all year round, even when it’s hiding behind the rainclouds.
